More Than One-Third of Travelers Trust AI for Trip Advice

Updated Apr 24, 2025
Artificial intelligence is increasingly finding its use in the travel and tourism sector, with people worldwide using gen AI tools for trip planning, signaling a major shift in how they prepare for vacations. According to data presented by Stocklytics.com, over one-third of travelers now rely on AI-generated recommendations for trip planning.
Most Travelers Use Gen AI to Find Accommodation, over 40%
Ever since the AI boom two years ago, travelers are increasingly turning to AI for smarter, faster, and stress-free planning. With gen AI apps, they can find personalized recommendations, the cheapest flights, and itinerary hacks in a few seconds, turning artificial intelligence into the ultimate travel companion. The recent Deloitte survey showed just how widespread this trend has become.
A survey revealed that over one-third of travelers open to using artificial intelligence for trip planning actually rely on AI-generated recommendations. However, usage varies by activity. Statistics show that most tech-savvy travelers used gen AI tools to find accommodation, with 43% booking and visiting the suggested places without additional research. Choosing the right destination was the second most popular AI use case in tourism, with 38% of respondents traveling based on AI advice.
Planning trip itineraries with the help of AI ranked third, with just as impressive 34% of travelers using AI for this purpose. Statistics also showed that gen AI tools were the least used to find restaurant options and in-destination activities, with 30% and 26% shares, respectively. Still, there is significant room for growth. According to the survey, more than half of respondents said they researched AI recommendations but didn’t book, while around 6% didn’t take any action at all.
AI in Tourism Market Set to Quadruple by 2030
As competition heats up, travel companies are betting big on AI tools to forecast demand, optimize pricing, and boost customer service through chatbots and virtual agents. With AI’s ability to cut costs, improve efficiency, and deliver smoother, more personalized travel experiences, the travel market’s investment in this technology will surge in the coming years.
According to Markets and Markets 2025 research, the entire AI in the tourism market is on track to quadruple by the end of the decade. Last year, the market was valued at roughly $2 billion. This figure is projected to grow by a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of over 28% in the following years, reaching an impressive $13.3 billion by the end of a decade, or four times its value last year.
