Bitcoin holdings are on a significant ascent as wallet owners progressively accumulate their assets. According to Stocklytics.com, Bitcoin addresses with balances over $1 million have reached an all-time high of 112,743.

The site’s financial analyst, Edith Reads, comments:

The record high of 112,743 Bitcoin addresses holding over $1 million highlights growing investor confidence and institutional adoption. This milestone validates Bitcoin’s role as a store of value and marks significant progress in the mainstream acceptance of digital assets.

Who Owns the Most Bitcoin?

Bitcoin addresses with balances over $1 million climbed significantly by up to 237% in 2023. By the end of the year, over 81,717 wallet addresses had such balances. As of April 17th, roughly 108,000 had outpaced the $1 million mark.

Satoshi Nakamoto, the mystery genius behind Bitcoin, holds the keys to the largest stash with over 1.1 million BTC, valued at approximately $73 billion in May 2024. This BTC is spread across roughly 22,000 addresses and has not been spent besides a few test transactions.

Still owning a massive pile of Bitcoin doesn’t mean Satoshi runs the network. Bitcoin is decentralized, and no single entity, not even its creator, can control the network’s operations or underlying protocols.

As of May 20, 2024, some of the top Bitcoin wallets are:

Pioneers Who Became Wealthy in Bitcoin

Some notable individuals who have become BTC billionaires include the Winklevoss twins, Cameron and Tyler. Thanks to their investments and vision, they accumulated around 70,000 BTC of Bitcoin.

Additionally, Changpeng Zhao (CZ) the CEO of Binance, entered the world of Bitcoin by selling his house in 2014 to invest in Bitcoin, showing his belief in the potential of cryptocurrencies.

In 2014, venture capitalist Tim Draper made waves when he bought 30,000 BTC seized by the U.S. Government from the Silk Road. His bold move reflected his confidence in Bitcoin’s future.

Due to its position as the leading cryptocurrency, several corporations, financial institutions, and alternative investment funds have accumulated Bitcoin holdings. Some of the top holders of Bitcoin among publicly listed companies include MicroStrategy Inc., Galaxy Digital Holdings, Marathon Digital Holdings, Tesla, Inc., and Hut 8 Mining Corp.

Some of the biggest Bitcoin holders are linked to the Binance and Bitfinex crypto exchanges. As Bitcoin continues to reshape the industry, the stories of its holders stand as proof of its lasting impact and transformative power in shaping the future of money.
