Once the haven of endless scrolls and likes, Facebook is now at the epicentre of a shocking revelation. According to a recent analysis by Stocklytics.com, there’s growing discontent on the platform, with 35% of users showing dissatisfaction. Facebook scored 66 out of 100 points, a relatively low score compared to YouTube and TikTok.

Scrolling through endless feeds has become second nature. The very designs of platforms like Facebook might make us lose track of time, escalating conflicts and ultimately leaving us discontent.

Edith Reads, a finance analyst at Stocklytics, underscores the urgency for Facebook to address the rising discontent: “While Facebook has long been a go-to platform globally, the increasing number of displeased users signals a potential shift. The platform must investigate the reasons behind this dissatisfaction and implement solutions to retain its massive prominence.”

Snapshot of Social Media Satisfaction in America 2023

Despite the discontent, Facebook retains its status as the most popular social media platform, boasting over 3 billion users globally. This includes 188.6 million in the United States.

As of August 2023, Facebook claims nearly 50% of all social media site visits in the U.S. However, its popularity hangs in the balance as satisfaction rates decline.

Comparatively, YouTube leads the satisfaction rankings with a score of 78 out of 100, followed closely by Wikipedia and TikTok, each scoring 77 points. In contrast, Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook trail behind, with YouTube holding a substantial ten-point lead.

While Facebook’s score of 66 may seem low, it represents a marginal improvement from its 2022 satisfaction rate.

Analyzing Facebook Dissatisfaction

The discontent can be attributed, in part, to shifting demographics. Gen Z, the dominant force in social media consumption, leans towards newer platforms like TikTok and Snapchat.

The newer generations view Facebook as more aligned with older generations. Experts predict that by 2025, TikTok’s daily minutes will reach 5.19 billion, surpassing Facebook’s 5.02 billion minutes.

Facebook also faces criticism for allowing objectionable content, particularly hate speech, on its platform. Despite efforts to combat this, with the removal of 18 million offensive pieces in Q2’23 and 9.6 million in Q3’23, the impact on satisfaction rates remains uncertain.

Facebook’s low satisfaction rates are a clear testament to how social media evolves with time. However, the platform must be wary of this downturn and provide content that resonates with today’s generation.
