Google is expanding the reach of its generative AI capabilities, introducing its latest Pixel 8a smartphone on Tuesday. With a relatively affordable price of $499, this phone has most of the advanced AI features, including innovative photo and video editing tools in its high-class counterparts, the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro.

The Pixel 8a, with a 6.1-inch screen, will allow users to use Google’s Gemini AI chatbot and other advanced AI features like Circle and Best Take search, all powered by AI. With time, the planned update on the device will introduce Gemini Nano, a lite version of the Gemini model. The version will directly run on the Pixel 8a, allowing it access to some AI tasks without internet connectivity.

Enhanced Features for User Experience

This gadget has Google’s latest chip, the Tensor G3, with a big storage capacity of up to 128GB. Besides, it provides room for expansion of up to 256GB. The Pixel 8a also boasts a 120-hertz display for enhanced gaming and smoother scrolling. Another great feature of this device is its camera setup, which can simulate telephoto lenses due to its super-resolution zoom. The phone has a 64-megapixel wide-angle lens and a 13-megapixel ultra-wide lens.

Although Google introduced most AI features when they produced the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro in October, the Pixel 8a strength lies in its magic editor. The AI-enabled editor enables easy photo manipulation, as you can easily remove unwanted objects.

The Circle to Search found on the latest Pixel models, enables online searches with objects in the images, giving it a greater taste. Furthermore, the phone has magic audio erasers, which can eliminate unwanted noise in the videos, thus enhancing user experience.

AI Incorporation to Boost Sales

Google’s approach to integrating generative AI into its phone products is to boost sales across its Android phones worldwide. The company has also partnered with Samsung to install similar technology into the Galaxy S24 series, pointing to the appealing nature of this innovation.

Generative AI might be the key to unlocking smartphone sales. Yet, the absence of a unique app to leverage its potential is a challenge. There are hopes that the forthcoming Google I/O developer conference might unveil more AI features for Android. Beyond Android, Apple also plans to launch its unique generative AI during its WWDC event in June 2024.
