Paper Trading Simulator

Start with $100,000 of simulated cash. Buy and sell at a price you enter. Cash and average cost update immediately.

The journal keeps the note, the realized profit, and the cash balance after each trade. Export the book to CSV.

Fills use the price you type. They do not simulate the live order book, slippage, or fees.

Paper trading is practice. A gain in the simulator is not a result you can withdraw, and it is not a forecast of the next trade.

Practise US stocks with a $100,000 virtual book. Each fill is written to a journal so you can see profit and loss before you use real money. A free account is enough to place a trade. No card. Results are hypothetical.

What is paper trading?

Paper trading is a rehearsal. You buy and sell at quoted prices, the cash balance and average cost update, and nothing is sent to a broker.

How to use the paper trading simulator

  1. Search for a US stock and open its quote.
  2. Enter a buy or sell. A market fill uses the latest quote. A backdated order uses that day's adjusted close.
  3. Watch cash, open profit and loss, and the position list.
  4. Read the journal. It stores the note, realized profit, and cash after each trade.

Paper trading vs real trading: what is different

The quotes are real. The money is not. The book ignores slippage and commissions, and it cannot recreate the stress of a losing position. Treat the result as practice, not as a forecast of a live account.

Features

  • $100,000 virtual cash at the start, and again after a reset.
  • Quotes that refresh about every 30 seconds, plus optional historical fills.
  • A trade journal stored in this browser.
  • Position value, profit and loss, and a comparison with the market once you have a history.

Paper trading FAQs

What is paper trading?

Simulated trading with virtual money at real market quotes, so you can practise without financial risk.

Is paper trading free on Stocklytics?

Yes. A new book starts with $100,000 of virtual cash. No card is required. Placing a trade, resetting, and exporting the journal ask you to sign in with a free account.

Can I lose real money paper trading?

No. All trades are simulated. No real money is used and Stocklytics does not connect to a brokerage.

Is paper trading realistic?

Fills use the latest quote, which refreshes about every 30 seconds, or a past adjusted close if you backdate the order. It does not model slippage, commissions, or the pressure of real money, so real results can differ.

How long should I paper trade?

Many beginners practise for a few weeks to a few months until they understand orders and risk.

Can I reset my account?

Yes. After you sign in, Reset clears the journal and puts the cash balance back to $100,000.
